Jooles (38) and Amy (25) met when Amy was at Welbeck defence Sixth form College and Jooles was her Rowing Coach. After she left the ladies continued to undertake rowing challenges including Eddystone Lighthouse Coastal Rowing Challenge with Exmouth RC, Naples Capris and Marseilles over the years. So coastal rowing is not new and indeed the notion of Ocean Rowing is not new with the pair being part of the six all female team GB Row 2013 around Britain which unfortunately didn’t make it to the start line.
Fast forward to 2019, Jooles had had a recent promotion and her youngest was now at school. A goal orientated challenge was needed. Jooles contacted Amy in January about rowing the Altantic as it was an immediate yes. It was time to so something about this and after putting out a request on various groups we successfully recruited Mark Sealey (55) from eight applications.
Mark has a great sporting background and experience of planning ocean rowing trips along with a positive and motivated attitude which aligned with the girl’s goals. Mark and the two girls have come together in forming The Transatlantic Trio. The aim to be the first mixed trio to cross the Atlantic and if we can get a shot at beating the current male trio record then we shall be fighting for that record too.
We are based in all over the UK, Salisbury, Nottingham and Somerset, a mixed sex team, very different careers, different ages, different family situations, The Transatlantic Trio is all about over coming boundaries, in communication, gender and team work, distance and age. We believe this diversity means that we all bring something different to the team, making us stronger.
As part of our journey to the start line for The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2020 we can’t wait to race in the London to Land’s End GB 2020 Challenge Race. It will be a fantastic opportunity to put our R45 to sea and test our equipment under race rules and regulations, whilst having the added pressure of a race, tides, navigation and sea sickness and gaining valuable and essential hours a sea for TWAC 2020.
The Transatlantic Trio are a force to be reckoned with!
