Coastal Odyssey
Hannah has always had a great respect for our oceans and seas and is excited to be joining Coastal Odyssey for the GB Row Challenge in 2024. She said the idea of rowing around the UK, getting to experience our beautiful coastline from a completely different perspective seemed like too good an opportunity to miss.
Hannah has minimal rowing experience but is a great lover of the outdoors, spending much of her spare time trail running, mountain biking or in/on the sea. She is a farm vet and cares deeply about the future of our planet, which is why the opportunity to be part of the bigger scientific research project with the University of Portsmouth was very appealing. She hopes that the row will contribute towards a better understanding of our oceans and seas.
Joe is a 26-year-old multifaceted individual who has an abundance of varied interests ranging from fast strategic polo, endurance rowing, to the finesse of playing the piano at a high level in large concert halls. He has been at Deloitte for over seven years in various roles specialising in utilising AI and data analytics to improve quality and efficiencies, a stark contrast to his initial passion of bespoke cabinet and kitchen design.
Within the last year Joe has embarked on many a challenge, partaking in the Palace-to-Palace Ultra bike ride and an impromptu triathlon having only taken up distance running this year. An avid national sprinter in his teens, he now revisits this vivacious side of him with an indefatigable attitude in the build up to setting off from Tower Bridge in June 2024.
Patrick grew up in the middle of England, in Leicestershire - about as far away from the sea as you can possibly be in the UK! He has also never rowed before, making this quite the adventure, which is exactly what he was looking for to celebrate his 40th year on this planet.
Despite having never rowed before, he’s been partaking in adventurous travel/challenges for most of his life. From multi-day dog sledding in the Finnish arctic, cycling across Europe (Italy to the UK), driving a reliant robin from the UK to Mongolia and traversing the deserts of Oman.
He also spent a year living/working in the Amazon rainforest and took part in a British-led climbing expedition by sailboat to put up new rock climbing routes in Western Greenland. This sparked his interest, love and respect for the ocean.
The combination of an epic challenge and ocean conservation research is what drew him to GB Row Challenge, which he is very proud to be a part of.
Lia is a 25-year-old physiotherapist, keen adventurer and fundraiser, dedicated to promoting sustainability and diversity in the world of sports.
She is predominantly a horse rider but with a change in circumstances was able to embark on a journey of exploration, trying various sports for the first time in her 20s. It was during this period that Lia discovered her love for sailing, surfing and ocean rowing.
To date, nothing has taught her more about mental and physical resilience than the GB Row Challenge in 2022. Lia embraced endurance training and ocean conservation networking as part of this immense project and has never put it down!
She strives to maintain a wide skill set including interpersonal skills and working under pressure, both well enforced by this challenge! Lia’s professional journey has been shaped by working on intensive care during the pandemic and more recently, becoming an expedition medic.
Lia is determined to take on the GB Row Challenge once again this year while raising funds for Surfers Against Sewage. She is building on her previous experiences and training with like-minded individuals to advocate combining sport and environmental projects!
Daisy is a Cotswold-based cyclist and foodie with a passion for adventure. Dedicated to raising awareness about the transformative power of sports, she is on a mission to inspire young people to explore the world and embrace new challenges. Growing up in Scotland, Dubai, and Vietnam, Daisy had the opportunity to explore the world from a very young age, instilling in her a restless desire to see the world from unique perspectives. Rowing around Great Britain is just one of those adventures.
In 2022, Daisy was part of the first female team to cross the finish line for the Talisker Whisky World's Toughest Row. Leading up to the row, she cycled over 650 miles crossing the length of Spain, making it the most carbon-conscious campaign to date. With a passion for adventure, she has also summited Mont Blanc, competed in Gralloch Gravel earlier this year and run the London Marathon.
Daisy is also passionate about sustainability, with a background working with Bulb Energy and the department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) whilst also assisting with Roadshows and Promotional Marketing's application of their B-Corp certification. Her interest in plastic pollution plays a significant role in this row, further highlighting her commitment to environmental sustainability.
