The Outward Bound Trust

For some young people growing up in today’s world, the picture is complex – with increasing numbers at risk of disaffection, poverty, alcohol and drug abuse, homelessness and crime. Young people face ever-increasing pressure. Confidence and the ability to develop transferable skills are the key to enabling young people to fulfil their potential in this fast moving, highly competitive environment.

The Outward Bound Trust aims to inspire young people to fulfil their potential through challenging outdoor experiences.

For over 60 years The Outward Bound Trust has influenced the lives of more than a million young people. Through safe adventure experiences on mountains and sea, rivers and lakes, young people develop their potential to take on new challenges, work in harmony with others and solve problems for themselves.

Outward Bound® not only operates through our four centres at Aberdovey in Wales, Ullswater and Eskdale in the Lake District and Loch Eil in Scotland, but also offers development opportunities through:

Outward Bound® Metro
Introducing young people from cities to the concept of outdoor learning

Outward Bound® Options
Delivering tailor-made outdoor experiences where and when there is a need

Outward Bound® Education
Working alongside schools, colleges and universities

Outward Bound® Global
Venturing abroad and being involved in a local community project, often a natural progression from an Outward Bound® residential course

Young people emerge from such experiences with improved communication, teamwork, leadership skills and greater self-esteem with the confidence to face the challenges that life brings.

The Outward Bound Trust is for all young people, although many of the participants require financial assistance to access a course. It brings together and unites different communities, different cultures and those of differing abilities.

At a time when youngsters face a future full of challenge and uncertainty, we aim to increase the number of young people who can work together and benefit from the unique experience of Outward Bound®.

Thousands of young people every year depend upon the support of individuals like you to give them the opportunity to fulfil their potential through an Outward Bound experience.
